Program bayi tabung memiliki dampak psikologis untuk para pasangan yang sulit mendapatkan buah hati terutama buat sang ibu.

"Biasanya karena bayi tabung adalah anak yang paling ditunggu kehadirannya maka wajar bila ibu menjadi overprotektif," ujar Vice President BumiMedika Healthcare System dan CEO Morula IVF Indonesia, dr. Ivan Sini, MD, FRANZCOG, GDRM, SpOG saat diwawancarai CloneAGC, ditulis Minggu (24/11/2013).

Hal yang sama dikatakan Psikolog, Adelina Syarif SE, Mpsi. Program bayi tabung akan membuat ibu bersikap berlebihan dalam menjaga buah hatinya.

"Pasangan yang menjalani program ini cenderung overprotective. Kecemasan ibu akan lebih tinggi dibanding ibu yang hamil secara normal," kata Adel.

Penantian yang panjang menurut Adel yang membuat ibu menjadi bersikap berlebihan dalam menjaga anak hasil program bayi tabung.

"Anak tersebut sudah sangat didambakan. Orangtuanya sudah melewati masa penantian yang cukup panjang dari perkembangannya semenjak awal program sampai kelahirannya jadi mereka sangat hati-hati sekali melindungi buah hati. Bukan berarti orangtua yang melahirkan normal tidak melindungi, tapi porsinya berbeda," kata Adel menjelaskan.

Hal ini juga dirasakan Menus Soedibyo (49), wanita yang memilih mengikuti program bayi tabung setelah mengalami tujuh kali keguguran.

"Ibu yang menjalani program bayi tabung memang akan lebih sensitif, dan saat mereka hadir rasanya bahagia sekali karena penantian yang panjang sehingga kami (Menus dan suami) mungkin akan lebih protektif tapi tidak terlalu berlebih. Saat ini saya sedang mengajarkan mereka hidup itu tidak mudah harus berusaha keras untuk mendapatkan sesuatu," kata Ibu dari Mahaputeri (14) dan Mahaputera (14) ini.
